old school 578
when i was 17 and before i aquired a vehicle i always set off on foot and in a straight line from A to B was about 7 miles so god knows how many extra miles i clocked up inbetween by walkin up and down fields, jumpin streams and climbin hedges... and carryin a motor cycle battery stuffed into a gallon jar with a belt for a shoulder strap and the old nightblaster lamp blazin away... jesus they were great days , especially the times when i was chased and spent an hour lyin in the hedge hidin with the dog lol.... but my route was always hit and miss... gettin a vehicle only spoiled me because not only do i still come home sometimes without a chase or a catch but i've also discovered now that i cant even walk my usual route anymore... i'm just not fit enough even tho my new lampin kit is only a blaserlite clubman and half the weight!! calls i used to use in jan time was a piece of polystyrene and nice big spit on the lense of the lamp... you could make all sorts of noises from a dog fox bark to an odd sort of rabbit squeal... i havent used that in a long time!! now i use the back of my hand or a hare distress call from primos... the widgeon whistle is a good call too and you can buy all these calls for less than a tenner from ebay!! happy hunting lad Quote Link to post
slip hound 32
practice on ur hand its the most versatile call you can make and adjust according to what the fox is doing i killed two out of four lastnite should of been tree my bitch was about to sweep it down low and jumped over her head and made the cover just the way it goes 1 Quote Link to post

Youve had a good mooch about, the dogs have been exercised and had a gallop or two, youve probably learnt something new that will make you better prepared for your next jaunt, youve also learnt a bit more about how the land lies and were to get a better run next time. Its always more satisfying to carry something home but blank nights can still be productive. 3 Quote Link to post
