Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Waiting for an extension to start Thursday so a few hours out between the paperwork .First light found me in a high seat overlooking the plantation thats had a bit of deer trouble . Nothing showing but then again it was very cold ,cold enough for two hair nets even .After an hour or so of freezing my plums off i decided to take a walk and that turned out to be a good move.Previously here ,id seen a very blond fox in a nearby field but my attempts at calling her that morning were miserable .I glassed her from a sloping field doing exactly the same route as last time ,up a hedgeline to a patch of tall reeds .I waited until she got to the reeds then hurried to the gateway which luckily was open .I got down on the pod and after letting the heart settle a bit i called .This time there was no skulking away and she came flying out the reeds so fast i had to shout to stop her at 30 yds away .The rest was a formality . After this i did the big circuit of the upper and lower fields with two does spotted on a neighbours stubble .Getting back near the seat ,i glassed a muntie buck on a mission down a hedgerow probably on the scent of a doe as he wasnt for stopping long and questing like a blood hound .I followed him, getting to within eighty yds but there was no stopping the buck not that i tried as hed of been off .His nose took him up a hedge at right angles to his set path and it was here that i took him off sticks .The shot was unfortunately high ,but resulted in a kill nonetheless .Gralloched him and took a moment to just lean on a gate to appreciate the surroundings and the bird song .Red wings and fieldfares in abundance this year with the berries,[just as well], equally so . PS Could someone please delete the second fox as i put up wrong pic to start with ,doh. Edited December 7, 2011 by IanB Quote Link to post
