help please !!

Recommended Posts

hi lads,i went off lamping with my lurcher tonight to get him going he is 9 and a half months old.We went into the first field and i wasnt sure would he watch the lamp because it was his very first time out lamping. But he watched the lamp as if he was lamping for years so i was very pleased with that :).So there was a rabbit squatting down and i walked up with the dog and lamp as i got closer the rabbit took off.So i slipped the dog and he took off like a bullet :) after the rabbit he coursed him down the field and then the rabbit ran into cover. So i was calling the dog back but he wouldnt come back :(.So after about ten minutes of trying to get him back he kept running around the field.I didnt know if he was just really excited or he just didnt want to come back. But i eventually got him.

it is weird because i have been training him for weeks of sit, stay and come. And he does it perfectly at home but he didnt do it out in the field:(.why is this ?.I was thinking maybe he is just so excited because its his first time out,but i dont know why!.

could you guys give me any kind of help at all.As it is my first lurcher.Any help would be great :) thanks guys !

first of all when you have him out during the day give him a low whistle or two and get down on your knees to get him back .When he gets back give him a few rubs as a reward. Then when you lamp him and he is off repeat the low whistle and flick the lamp on and off at your feet and reward him when he comes back .Works for me pal but others might not agree just my opinion pal
