The Duncan 802
Hi folks, I took apart the SMK air rifle last night as I'd testfired it and got a lot of smoke, which did not dissipate even after 20 shots or so. Investigating the internals seemed the best idea so I stripped it to its component parts. It became clear that the dufus who'd given me the rifle had put oil down the transfer port, lots of it. I cleaned up the cylinder as best I could, cleaned the spring, spring guide and had a go at cleaning up the piston, but it seems like the piston crown is made of leather or compressed card as it is definitely porous and has soaked up a lot of oil. I put back together with just enough moly grease in the right places and testfired it again. Still smoking, but definitely smoother for the strip clean and re-lube. So, question is, does anyone know of a better piston seal I can use? Is there a 'tune up' kit available? As, although the rifle is clearly a very basic one, it isn't unpleasant and seems robustly made. Nobody came forward wanting it as a freeby when it was offered, so I'm considering keeping it for my youngest lad - cheap plinker to help him learn to handle recoil. Not really sure what model it is - the cheapest I think. It's got SMK and Westlake etched on the receiver and has a brown painted stock (nice!) It's also got crappy swivels on the side of the stock. Any help greatly appreciated Cheers, Duncan Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
I don't know about a different piston washer mate, but one trick I know to help kill dieseling with leather washers is to give it a good dose of pure silicon oil. It won't diesel under airgun pressures and will help kill the effects of whatever other mineral oil the previous muppet's stuck in there. Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Sounds like the SMK/Westlake B2, I gave one away a year or so back. http://sportsmk.co.uk/item/27/ Tony Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
that's the one tony, thanks. Apart from mine has a painted brown stock - might strip it to see what the wood underneath looks like. I can always repaint it if it's nasty I like the way the ad says 'extremely powerful', but fails to quote either fps or fpe. Quote Link to post
