The computers are a great place and theres a lot of people on here who know what there on about word of warning after reading this thread this computer hunter is exactly that  take advice from him about terriers and your on a downward spiral he knows nothing.......

Computer hunter dont take this wrong its just i cant stomach miss guidance.....Dont start a row just really think on how much earth work YOU have done with YOUR dogs not just talked to people in the pub....

Edited to add you might know a bit about working dogs lurchers etc but the terriers are a different ball game nothing like the lurchers not even close....

You can waste a lot of time and produce a lot of waste trying to reinvent the wheel. As you churn out more dogs in an attempt to breed life into an exotic/unusual breed, unless you don’t have and maintain the highest standards, you are consigning yourself to a lot of heartache and failures. Even when you have two good workers, you have to ask yourself what’s behind them…what are they likely to throw? Sometimes worker to worker is simply not enough. Ultimately you have to realise that you are trying to replicate that which already exists. But knowing human nature, there will always be people who want to be different, to stand out from the crowd. There are a lot of people out there who like a novelty, a gimmick if you like, be that different names, colours, sizes – whatever. It might be the boring choice and every other working terrier bloke you come across might have one too, but go for what’s reliable. Go for what does the business time after time. If you are in this for the long haul (and some aren’t) then try to start off on the right foot, start with the very best you can obtain and try to not fall into the trap of making excuses for them.

To shed some light on this subject of using and breeding non proven, unknown stock .

Some terriers of unknown breeding WILL work and some work very well but when it comes to the breeding of such a dog then you are taking a risk because the parents are unknown ard undesirable traits can show in the next or subsequent litters .Lines of terriers are not produced for nothing ,they contain the genes which produce a HIGH PERCENTAGE of workers and this is the difference .If you do only a minimum of digging and your standard is low ,you may be happy with producing hit or miss offspring but the lads that dig regular will all tell you that a proven line is what is needed .

Ive said it before but not enough lads are prepared to search for a sire to improve their stock and are usually happy to make do with a mates good dog just because its local.

We should all strive to better the next generation and not make do .

at the minute i have a dog that is just a pet but i have had him out and he has had 4 digs and not one of them could i find a falut. As with everything there is always an exception to the rule. What i mean is if your looking for a pup you wont buy from miss lakeland cruffts breeding champion you will look for the fella that has a working line of lakeland types that are proven dogs but every now and again a terrier will come along with the drive that your looking for in a dog and will make a good terrier. i personally think it's a good idea to keep as many of the litter as possible for as long as is possible , that way you can pick the best and pet home the rest

How about you get real and do you seriously beleive that 50 odd years of breeding to type can be circumvented with a scatterbred cur?

Because if you do you are a particular individual
