Gaz_1989 9,539
I'm just getting into ferreting now, got 2 this years hobs which I tried the other day for the first time (borrowed mates locator collar) and they both went down and had a look which I was pleased about as they're only about 6 months old. My big hob went down for a good 5 minutes or so but set turned out to be empty. Anyway, I'm looking to get a collar and locator box but just want a bit of advice of what's on the Market and what's the best route to go down? Don't see many second hand ones for sale and what I do see are expensive. I've seen the Deben Ferret Finder Mk3 and 1 x collar in the THL shop for £150. Is this a decent locator? Are the Mk1 and Mk2 better or much cheaper and worth holding on for? Just looking for various opinions, Cheers Gaz Quote Link to post
darbo 4,779
just a couple of my opinions-mk1 i personally liked it.faults the depth stickers need replacing after time due to use. i had problems with the wheel on the side for depth range. after time it would wear loose needed to be tightened. had one snap on me once.cost of one is expensive if it breaks its then finding someone who can repair them and calibrate them. you get interferance when working near overhead powerlines etc.heard nothing but negative reports about the mk2. i have the mk3 original version. not had a problem with it.seen quite a few reports on here about the mk3km and some people have had problems. must admit the cost is very high for a locator and collars when first starting off. but in my opinion a essential piece of kit. Gaz_1989 9,539
Thanks for reply. I might bite the bullet and fork out the cash for a Mk3 (original not mk3m). Should last a good few years if looked after and as you say its an essential bit of kit really. Gaz Quote Link to post
