Veteran Cattle dog and Apprentice, photos.

I think the confusion is over the term cattle dog, it seems some people think collie/cur/sheepdog type lurchers are cattle dogs, they may be working sheep/cattle but not really called cattle dogs as in Australian Cattle Dogs which are a breed of their own, and as their name suggests bred for working cattle in Australia, sometimes called the Blue/Red Heeler depending on colour, the Heeler part comes from the ACD strike, where they dart in and bite the heel of the cattle to move them on.

Most ACD are different in shape, size, build temperament to Collies.

Forest of Dean Redneck, both are capable of catching daytime and lamped rabbits, the big blackdog was lamped until he was 6, and used for ferreting and mooching and caught many in big fields on the run, he had a good top speed, the little 21 inch ACD X GREW has only been used in daytime, catches bolters and works the rough ( great nose) catching what she puts up, she doesnt have fantastic top end speed, she is short and stocky, what she catches are mainly in the first 50 yards, she is deceptively quick off the mark.
