Hi all i have got a full season beating on a large estate. First day is Saturday. The thing i need to know is what should i wear and what should i take with me. Also what to be prepared for.

Thanks Andrew

Footwear......Sturdy set of boots or a pair of wellies

Clothing.....Anything thats waterproof/windproof, i'd stick too a couple of thin layers of lightweight clothing. Sometimes if you wear a heavy jacket you can get warm and it makes it a bit of a slog. Stick to dark colours like green, black, brown........your not going to a disco... :D A pair of gloves and a tammie are advisable.

If you dont get supplied with a meal or a pie and soup then take a sandwich along, a flask of soup or coffee/tea can be a little piece of heaven somedays too....

Be prepared to walk quite a bit, over rough ground and steep hills. Be prepared to bash through woods and if you haven't got a dog then take a stick and hit any bush you see.

Top thing is dont moan....nobody wants to hear someone moaning all the way and its a sure way of not getting asked back.

Once you've been a few times you get part of a team and meet new friends......enjoy it....

 ...............and that reminds me be prepared to be shouted at.......its not personal and will be forgotten about at the end of the day over a nice sloe gin.... :D

Good for you! Id love to do a days beating with my springers. I love rough shooting my way through heavy cover with them and to do it as part of a team would be a delight. One of these days im going to organise myself to go over and do a days beating and experience that english tradition all for myself.
