anyone got a knife with damascus steel blade is it the best steel you can buy????

I have a nice folding knife i brought from William Powel gun shop, its been a very good knife keeping a very good edge for long periods of time and used almost daily, i usually take it to a game fair and play the knife lads off against each other to see who gets it the sharpest, that keeps me til the next event.

I think a lot depends on the quality of the steels used, so worth paying for the best you can afford IMO.

damascus very in quality alot ! its basicly a blend of 2 steels . the higher the carbon content the better this gives you the sharpness. not just any damascus is good enough , and all damascus with rust and tarnish , thats the nature of high carbon steel .

heat treating and temper make the blade what it is hard with flexability etc , the harder the steel the sharper it will be for long periods , but the down side is that if you dont know how to sharped properly or dont have the right kit then you will just ruin the blade.

the latest products are amasing , a company in europe called damasteel use power steels and make damascus partern weilded steel but it is rust proof and is super hard . look for blades made with this material !!1 but its realy expensive .

damascus tho is not the "best steel" its offen a blend ov very very good steel . for everyday use i would want a blade of damasteel or RW34 which is a powder steel .
