training pups with the older trained dog

Recommended Posts

WHEN it's ready ( if it ever will be) the dog will take all quarry without another dog to show it. Doubling up dog gives an unready pup false confidence and encouranges them to rely on back up. Similiar to when kids fight in school, hard as f**k when there mates there cheering them on, ( quite often) not as hard when alone.

An adult on the other hand has the maturity, and it either has the minerals; or it doesn't.

Just because a pup thinks its ready, doesnt make it so. Thats where your judgement as a dogman comes into play.

As said, not all dogs have it in them, and alot of shit dogs are made to look good by doubling up. You can't make a dog, but you can certainly ruin them. Take your time, and don't rush it. The tits you hear slipping 8 month old pups, you watch them, rarely is it a single handed dog by the times its reached 3 years.

I like to train my dogs to the ferrets and nets with a good steady experienced dog say when about 9 to 10 months they can learn a lot off one, however lamping is a different kettle of fish i would never double up with any dog running two dogs on the lamp is not worth the risk, and if the pup is ever to make the grade then it should be able to do it on its own.
