First ever tick

I've been really lucky so far in that in the three years I've had a dog he's never picked up a tick. One found him yesterday. I removed with a tick tool but I'm not 100% sure I got the head. It was on him for about 4 hours I reckon and there's a small hard lump under his skin where it was attached. Should I get him to vet anyway?

 

Sorry for the dumbass question but this really is the first time I've had to deal with this problem.

i wouldnt worry about it mate the lump should dissapear in the next day or to

I'd recommend you invest in a set of these for future use:

 

 

They cost about a fiver in the vets, but using them almost guarantees the correct removal of the whole tick.

Cheers guys, the swelling does seem to be going down now and he hasn't developed any other signs of a reaction or infection. He's under observation.

 

I'll have a look for that tool Malt. The one Ive got is basically a bent wire loop.

There is quite often a lump left even when you get the whole tick out, nowt to worry about.
