I thought about making a lamp of my own since the one I have is just an old torch that was given to me by my mates. I wanted a light that would put out a bright beam without too much heat or use too much power so I bought a hid kit. I realized it didn't come with ballasts so I bought one. After a bit of tweaking I connected the set up to my 12v 7ah battery and it burnt a nice picture into my eye sockets. I'm planning on having it completed by next week and putting it in the field Friday night. Hopefully it won't be a dissapointment and if it works I will put up some plans and pics for anyone interested in making their own. Looking forward to a cracking season

think the main problem you might have is these are like flourescent lamps, the output builds up slowly so when you switch on you dont get instant light like a normal bulb, interesting experiment tho, let us know what its like to hunt with (to lamp or shoot with)

It comes on like a light switch, will let you know

if its anything like hid on cars you wont get full power as soon as you flick the switch, theres a noticable delay before you get full light output, may be an advantage of the target does`nt get full light straight away

Think it was Vin on this site that was having a go at making them, maybe check his past threads for any pointers?
