Tiny 7 1,694
Id say 4/5yr old min, Cause most will run keen for a few seasons but when they have 4/5 seasons under there belt and still going great guns then think it proves that they have the heart for the game buts thats JMO, And on pure Gh in the feild well the land i hunt they tend to be found wanting in the wind department but then again that JMO and the land i hunt Quote Link to post

rocky1 942
1 mans good dogs differs 2 the next mans good dog,i would a least 3 seasons ,and i would allways x ,i prefer lurchers with mix breed rather then a first x Quote Link to post
trigger2 3,406
imo pure greyhounds are not the best in the field as you are limited to what you can do with them, you are much better off with a x. pre ban the right cross was able to take all quarry regular. Quote Link to post
123456 146
That's a silly statement in my opinion, of course greyhounds can take all quarry Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
I'd say how many seasons depends on how much work the dog sees during those seasons. As an average i'd say 3/4 seasons would show a proven dog. Dogs A, may get out once a week during the season and catch 2 rabbits a session, dog B may get out 4 nights out a season and manage 20 rabbits a session, so although both dogs may work for three seasons which dog has the better experience? Then for those that are fortunate to have more legal quarry to go at, dog A may be out one night a week and catch perhaps a couple of rabbits and a fox, dog B may be out four times a week and dropping several rabbits foxes/hares and deer. Its all about the individual dog imo.............. And greyhounds, that speed is a recipe for injuries imo, not enough stamina etc etc........... Quote Link to post
