terrierone 32
hiya all i just took a allotment over which has 10 blue haze poults roughly 7 months old plus a lush blue haze cock bird ,,, thing is im new too this but i bought 4 common reds, to get more eggs, but the blues wouldnt let them settle, wouldnt even let them on floor too eat or get water,,,,? anyways a lad beside me has black rocks he having probs with them also, are we right thinking neither of these can be mixed with other breeds,, other thing is, i know hens will stop laying soon but i was getting 9 eggs a day until last week when i built new chicken runs ,, was told the noise might put them off now only getting 2 eggs a day ,,,, anyone give me any pointers here thx john
foxdigger13 114
Well my warren hens won't tolerate any new chickens hens or cockerels being put in there run, so maybe it's something to do with hybrids as my pure breeds mix fine, Cheers fd.
artic 595
Firstly you shouldn't add new birds to a flock, that is an easy way to spread any disease. Quarantine is a must. Keep them seperate for a few weeks, but near to your original flock, then release your new birds with them. Place extra feeders/ drinkers in the pen so your new birds get a good chance of eating and drinking if they get bulllied, which they will for a while. Just keep an eye out for blood and flesh showing as chickens can become real nasty. It's called pecking order...
terrierone 32
right there they were nasty, understand the pecking order,, might get rid of blues and just keep reds or white star,, as been told there good layers, anyone local too me in newcastle got any white star hatching eggs by any chance.
