whin 463
yappers are two things either enterd to early or not good enough for the qaurry in hand ,run tired , to jeed up or have teriier mix two much so, a running dog only needs a qaurter of any base blood collie terrier etc , any more they get out run at times ,on fast qaurry with decent slips ,i keep away from terier blood for that reason only terrier i like is the wheaton had a pure wheaton years ago ,and saw a few crosses years ago ,i expect a dog to run the farm some nites or were ever so he does a [bANNED TEXT] few miles and then chase inbetween once they cant put a bend in there qaurry there put back in jeep i never run them to tired ,always like seeing them ready next day ,alot of people on here dont no nothing on dogs and buy any shite and they get found out on a proper chase no thick hedges fences soft grass ,hard runnng on decent size land with dry ground ,its horses for courses as they say , Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
Don't know how you can say a lurcher only needs a quarter of any terrier blood whin, surely that's down to what the dogs owner wants , size , coat etc especially when you don't own or run these crosses Edited September 3, 2019 by grant_c Quote Link to post
whin 463
ive saw these crosses work and saw plenty of them ,my mates work them on the moor grouse keepers saw afew good ones bull crooses silent most of the time wheatons are not bad to ,but so far the beddies and the lakies some collie crosses are prone to sing same when they have alot of whippet just the way they are bred ,mostly if the hare is out pacing them or the rabbit out turning them and the dog gets tired ,i would love to see good beddie crosses that can do the lot in style etc but sems to be thin on ground nowadays, had half crosse collie type lack pace ,after christmas when hares and roe were fit and fast ,now if your talking about just fro a draw dog well thtas diffent of catching things you can sqeek [bANNED TEXT] up to , but in general for proper running dog who cacth there game with pace never neede much terrier or collie a qaurt was enough Quote Link to post
whin 463
grant c if you have aheavy saturated terrier colie come through for a run and let me see them do what i expect out a running dog mate your welcome ,a lurcher was bred to run its qaurry down or use guile , any les and well starts to be a specailist dog not an alround good lurcher for filling the pot Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
I was going to highlight this on your last post about proper running and fast quarry etc, but I didn't bother although you've just highlighted it there winter hares etc etc everybody views " proper running" in a different way we all are interested in different types of work, running hares isn't my game so wether a January hare outmatches my beddy cross I couldn't care less, if anybody is into coursing hares then a terrier x would surely be the last on the list for their needs, you said you had a half x collie grey that didn't have the pace for hares? Didn't you expect as much? So for you the dog was substandard but for someone who works a long net or does a lot of rabbiting that dog could have been the dog of their lifetime I would keep a half x collie but that's because I obviously have different interests in the game than you, like you say it's horses for courses but there's no point putting down a breed or different crosses of lurchers because they were no good at your sport, view them doing the work they were bred for it's like saying that footballers shite tiger woods beat him at golf, you would expect as much Quote Link to post
whin 463
grant i expect my lurhers to catch rabbs mate if they couldnt they wouldnt be there but once they have there feet and a year old or more well expect alot more ,a lurcher to me mate is an allround dog not just a rabbit dog or just purely for hare roe odd fox when it was all legal ,i treid the specalist type found them wanting , so to me any thing less then goes down a peg,ps the half cross i had she was top rabbit dog got to feild trails with her caut thousands of rabbs ,but was never a great allrounder to me mate thats what i call a lurcher a doog thta fills the pot on all sorts its hard to keep them going but there there ,we are all diffrent Quote Link to post
