patdahat 41 Posted September 11, 2011 Report Share Posted September 11, 2011 yesterday i spotted a yound deer in a field with 2 horses, it was a yound doe, with no other deer in the field. this deer was fawn in colour with a scatter of white spott's all over. for some reason i think it might be a fallow and my mate thinks it's a sika and the 1 evening 1 forgot the camera, form the simple discription could you help me identify this deer? cheers pat.. Toka 10 Posted September 11, 2011 Report Share Posted September 11, 2011 think it may need a bit more information pat. are both species usually on the gorund? any sign of the metatarsal gland [lighter spot] on the hock of the rear leg? Sika have the appearance of having a frown a 'frown'. anyway someone else may come along and correct me or be able to help... atb Quote Link to post

danw 1,748 Posted September 11, 2011 Report Share Posted September 11, 2011 A fallow would have a tide line a difference in colour between the top and bottom of its flank, a sika would be light brown and spotty in its summer pelage it would have no tide line and it would have white metatarsal glands on its' hocks it would also have more rounded ears Quote Link to post
