Yesterday.

So, decided as it was September 1st yesterday i should go out for my usual wander with the dog and ferret , but maybe put a wee bit more effort in, even if it was only for a few hours.

Walked down the lane at the back of the house through the woods, and could hear a woo woo woo woo, getting steadily louder, just then, as i came to a gate, a hound went belting past. Looked out across the field and could see a good few folk ringing a maize crop, while the local hunt chased some trails.

So that was my ferreting forgotten about, went and joined the farmer and his missus and watched for a good couple of hours, the hounds were splitting up right left and centre, following different trails here and there (young hounds out), I must have picked a good place to stand as three separate trails or the same trail three times, tried to break out of the maize and make it across the field away from the hounds, each time the sight of our little group and Finn going fecking mad on the lead, persuaded it to turn back into the maize and run the gauntlet of the hounds.

It was a very good couple of hours, of nice tight hunting, plenty of tongue, and a good chat. Even got some more permission from a lady there.

The dog was giving me evils and couldn't quite understand why the other dogs got to play chasey chasey, and why i hadn't let him go when the trail appeared in front of us.

On the way home, took a longish route through the woods and the dog put a bunny up, through the hedge, into someones garden (where i can go), nipped in, found the set and bolted a good sized eater.

Job done!
