my stoat trapping challenge.this trap ok?

Recommended Posts

My question is what will you use for bait...and how will you keep it fresh with spring here? Smaller mesh with a super light pan tention would be the way I would try it. I never caught a weasel, or stoat as you call them , in a cage trap. In the US, we always used Victor rat traps, 110 conibears or foot traps like a #1 longspring with fresh bloody meat and weasel lure to catch them. I have however, used a live mouse or small bird in a cage trap to catch mink. The trap had a special "bait compartment" at the end of the trap.

ok lads after you have given me a lecture on "changing rooms" and "what to/ what not to" have in the house could you help me out? yeah i figured the mesh gaps were too wide so iv covered the trap in mesh with alot smaller gaps.that should help. sometimes i cant belive the people on this site. im askin for help off of people who know a lot more than me .( because im a total amateur) and i get people takin the piss out of my fu*in house.. :no: sambo

Don't take it to heart mate,i posted a pic of my airifle once and got my MR GRUMPY slippers in the shot, you should have seen the p1ss taking on that thread, all took in good fun :laugh: .

All the best with your trapping mate :victory:

ok lads .the washer's smashed up.the gay perfume spreader is a fu*kin piece of shit. i get it lol. im going to change the tiles tomorrow :D .my dad recently ate a sandwich which was created on that work surface and his face and eyes have gone yellow... lol . ok im "in" on this laughing thing.cant wait for someone to post a pic with something equally :sick: as the perfume spreader in the background to take the piss out of lol :D

i said i was going to set the trap yesterday (infact for a few days now) but i havnt .BUT i'm definately going to set it tomorrow.in the morning.at 8. because i dont have to go to "fun" 6th form while 1. not got the bait sorted yet but hopefully ill have some in the morning when the critters of my garden are having their morning feed..wont mention the name for legal reasons. dont worry its not anything "rare or endangered".. ill take a pic of the set trap in the morning and post it on here. ill try and do a sort of before :mellow: and after :):D:victory: picture. thats if i get anything.which i doubt. im more liable to get trapped in the rat cage myself when im setting it rather than successfully capture a stoat.....im having visions of the local papers headline being "BOY FOUND IN DITCH...IN A CAGE TRAP"

:icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek:

thats not me by the way.and thats not the size of the trap...lol but a rough idea. sambo

in all of the above it has mentioned egg

Bait and lures

Key elements are: high palatability, a field life aligned with frequency of field checking, doesn’t attract non-targets, easy to use and cheap.

· The most effective baits may differ with location and the natural diet of stoats in the location.

Stoats are flexible and opportunist in their diet.

· Effective baits include rabbit and fresh, white, un-cracked hen eggs.

Fresh baits such as rabbit may be highly attractive to stoats but will need replacing at frequent intervals.

Hen eggs are often the most practical bait because they are readily accessible, easy to store and handle in the field, and can last up to one month in cool climates.

· Baits should be changed regularly (timing depends on environmental conditions) and disposed of away from the trap.

fancy some egg on toast myself now after reading about eggs,if you do catch anything else in your traps besides a stoat be sure to let us know
