Change of diet!

Recommended Posts

Well I decided to have a few hours down the permission yesterday evening, and for a change I took out the .22 (zeroed 30 metres, hold under mildot 20 metres, other points on the MAP scope are 35, 40, 45 and 50 metres). I got a myxo rabbit on the way down the track, so that was bagged for burning, got fully set up and then I saw it, a power line full of pigeons.

NBC camo was on, gloves were donned, I put my scrim net on and draped it over my face and gun, I then started on the long walk (quarter of a mile) to the line of dinners. I get to 50 metres from the dinner line when a pheasant explodes from the long grass in front of me, squawking like a demented car klaxon, of course then the pigeons give it wings. Damn, curse, mutter, swear, fume, I walked back a damned site quicker than I got there I can tell you.

I got back to the bales and saw another myxo victim, that was despatched and bagged again. I walked round the permission and despatched another. I took the three up to the burn pile and then walked back down to the bales. I decided to walk up the track in case there was a rabbit in the top paddock. As I get to 30 feet from the fallow area before the paddocks, I saw a familiar grey head, with white splodges on the neck.

I knew that if I remained standing, the pigeon would see me, so I crawled along the track until I got to the edge of the nettles. I got into a firing position and the pigeon looked at me, then just strutted off across the grass. I got a good line on it, fired and had a change of dinner, Pigeon for a change. Not a lot else showed, but the fresh littering of cartridge cases shows the roost shooter has been around again, so will give it a couple of days before I go back for another go!

Just seems I am going wrong somewhere, I got a .177 for feather and have only shot rabbits with it! I bought the .22 for fur and every bird I have shot has been killed with the .22!

Must have been a small dinner though moley; are you on a diet?

For a fast lunch it takes 2 birds breasts marinaded and fried quickly (still pink in the middle) to keep me full.

Shame that pheasant spoiled thing for you!

Nice to bag one with the air rifle though - well done

Cheers
