Cataracts??

Recommended Posts

Doe's anybody know if ferrets suffer from cataracts as they get older? :hmm:

I've just noticed my 5 year old albino Jill has gone cloudy in one eye. I know albino eyes are more susceptible to damage, just wondering if anybody had any experience. She's not in any bother with it, and I've seen an ancient, blind hob ferret (10 years old) get about it's run at a garden centre with no problems, so I'm not overly worried by it. I can't see how it would affect her working ability either. :hmm:

Cloudiness in an eye doesn't always mean a cataract. Might be worth getting it checked out. It could be due to trauma, nutrition, infection etc. Might be easily curable. Cataracts tend to affect both eyes over time.

Edited to say, yes ferrets can get cataracts as they age.
