Just take your time with the pup. When its old enough, say 9 months, give it a couple of handy runs on the lamp at rabbit and it will soon cop on to what it was bred to do at a later stage, but for now apart from breaking it to livestock and general everyday stuff, let it be a pup.

let him develop first yes do the basics sit come stay and retrieve long walks around live stock is all for now but running i say let the bones develop and mature a bit mine did nothing till he was 19mths old this will be his first session this winter and he is coming on great i myself like to start my dogs late around 14mths on wards depending on the dog .

take your time and you will have many years of running with your dog Rome was not built in a week

good advice on the post, just keep up with training + stock training. When he is about 12 months old, take him out with the lamp, but dont try to run rabbits right away. Do your recall in the dark as like in the day, stand or sit him 1st then walk 10-15 yds away , then call and flick the lamp to your feet, so he will gey used to coming back to you. If ok go further away 20-30yds and do the same, when you got him coming back ok, then try a rabbit. Try to get one right out in the field, if he does catch he might go deaf lol.Thats why i try to get the recall spot on before they do catch  . just take it easy.!
