Wxm 1,638
I've seen on here on many of a topic that soooo many people wont buy a lurcher / terrier off anything other than working stock. but has many people bought a pup / dog from none working stock and come up good, and on the same note has anyone bought a pup / dog from well worked well proven stock and it never made the grade?? me id say its more of the input rather than the ingredients, but i wont go as far as to say it wont help as it probibly does. so whats your views?? :hmm: Quote Link to post
staffs riffraff 1,068
to me if its in the dog its there but if you had the chance of a pup from 2 siblings one worked the other not but the none worker was a faster stronger more inteligent dog which one would you have as to me they dont pass on how much quarry they have had but the chances are obviously better off workers. hope that makes sense to someone Quote Link to post
Guest dances
does make sense riffraff but i dont believe its always right, had a pup out of an apparently very good worker yet the pup was shit. had him 2 years, put alot of work into him but he just didnt have it Quote Link to post
birddog 1,354
i don't think there is a hard and fast rule, 1 of my bitches is out of an unworked stud and an ex track bitch (yes hancocks) but shes as good a rabbiter as ive had in 40yrs, 1 of the best working terriers ive ever seen came from a rescue centre obviously with an unknown background and these two have one thing in common.........guys that know the game are patient and persistant, they didn't give up and sell on at the first hiccup, mistake or failure. there has to be an element of nature in it but nurture is just as important. ive seen it with allsorts of working dogs lurchers, terriers, gundogs and collies the good dogmen get the best out of their dog worker to worker or not Quote Link to post
jf1970 328
i think this sort of topic has been done to death, but i voted anyway, imo it's what you put into and in front of the dog that counts Quote Link to post
