The one 8,592
Is it just me ,i know im a old fossil i get told it enough But some of the questions on here recently . In my day you looked after your old mans ferrets and the gear and everything had to be ready for the days ferreting and in good nick and if no in the car ready to be loaded .Your apprenticeship lasted years you had to clean out and feed the ferts all year round you sometimes got asked about breeding a hob to a jill and that was all the input you got . i got my first ferret when i was ** and you already knew enough about them forty years on whats changed ?. Everybody seems to be getting a ferret then ask about looking after them housing ,breeding ?. Quote Link to post

Col_c88 41
you might be right but maybe they are new to hunting got no mates into it , better to ask on here rather than plod on blindly This is very true, I got into hunting on my own, my Dad never took an interest until I did and all my mates are either out on the pi$$ or sat in playing ps3/xbox while not bein arsed to do out with there lives .. I wanted someting to do on my days off work that didnt involve being A waster. I got a gun after being medicly dismissed from the army, thats probably what started me off. HOWEVER, I came here BEFORE i got ferrets and my posts are still around from askin the questions. I learned as much as I could about guns and ferrets before actually getting them. A result of that is I got my first 2 ferrets off a lad from this forum so when that offer came up I felt I was ready. Dont understand these people who do something (like breed there ferret) THEN want to know about it.. Now that im into hunting though turns out a few of my older mates, and my dads mates actually hunt ALOT ... One of them will be taking me out with his BOP when I can walk so I can start learning that for the future! Quote Link to post

Everybody seems to be getting a ferret then ask about looking after them housing ,breeding ?. I think you've answered your own question mate when you wrote that you looked after your old man's ferrets and that was your apprenticeship. So in a way you were brought up with ferrets and your dad was there to answer any questions you asked so even if we had the internet way back then you wouldn't have needed to flood it with questions about feeding, breeding, housing etc. Some don't have the luxury of having a parent, uncle etc as a tutor infact some might not directly know anyone that owns or works ferrets, should that stop them from getting into the game? Definately not, if they are genuinely interested in learning more about ferrets why shouldn't they ask on a hunting forum, seems a logical place to start. I would agree with you that it would be better to ask first then get a ferret after they've done some research. There has been a few questions asked repeatedly as of late on this forum and this seems to have rattled some cages personally I don't have a problem with anyone asking a question even if the answer seems pretty obvious, after all we're all here to share our experiences and learn from others.
