Shazza 52
How old is the dog? Is it used to a crate or do you just shove it in there at night? 1 week is still early days and they take different times to settle in depending on age and what they were used to. Try leaving a radio on low so the dog doesn't feel abandoned when you leave it

lurchergrrl 1,441
She won't be used to the crate probably. Try feeding her in it. Leave the door open while you do. Get her used to going in and out of it and it's not a threatening place for her. Once she's relaxed eating in it, quietly shut the door and as soon as she's finished, and before she can whinge, open the door again and praise her. Then increase the time you leave the door shut. If she's got treats or toys, put them in there for her. I'd put a blanket or sheet over it to make it more of a den for her as well. And I assume it's big enough for her to stand up and turn around in? What it is, you've got to convince her the crate is a happy place. At the moment all she knows is you bung her in there and go away and it probably scares her. You can get bones from the butcher to give her when she goes in to keep her busy. Or you can get one of those big rubber Kong toys they sell at pet shops. Stuff it with something interesting and really tasty - natural yoghurt mixed with soaked biscuit or tuna, something like that - and then freeze it. Give her that when you put her in the crate and it'll keep her busy for AGES. Give her time and be patient. Once she likes the crate she'll be glad to go in it. It takes a bit of time but it's so worth it.
