hot air balloons

Recommended Posts

Yet again and for the las 10 years im plagued with hot air balloons flying over my fields and upsetting my livestock. The company involved is called Airtopia and they are based in Devon. These balloons are lovely to watch but a nightmare if they fly over your livestock or worst still land on your land or next to it.

Ive been asking nicely Airtopia to give me a quater of a mile exclusion zone as they are causing my ponies/shire horse to crash through fences and shred mains electric fencing. The last incident my shire mare made my new £60 electric tape look like over stretched knicker elastic!! its also starting to get very dangerous. When i approached the landed balloon the other night i was told by the pilot he cant steer his balloon which i find a load of shite as i know they wouldent be able to fly if that was the case. Various letters and emails later they just deny they caused the damage and have even denied being in the area.

Guys and girls what can i do!!

put a sign up on your land saying any balloon on this land will be destroyed. then when they land just let your hedge trimmer have a go on it. you will only have to do one and they wont land on your land again.

take video evidence of the balloons flying near or over your land and of the ponies/horses/livestock panic stricken, im sure there must be laws with the aviation authoritys that they are supposed to be adhereing to, log a complaint with the police everytime they fly over the land, keep a diary listing dates and times, contact with police, phone calls to the company, written replys from the company. if you build up enough evidence you may be able to take them to court,

get your solicitor to write to them, that alone might be enough to dissuade them from flying over your land and may be the quickest and easiest solution to the problem

Im after serious replies, does anyone no anything about aviation law

I was being serious  .I'm not saying shoot at the ballons I'm saying use it as a deterrent. They know they are tresspassing by landing on your land and by constently doing it they obviously see you as a soft touch (sorry).Unless you do something that makes them realise that they are tresspassing and you will not tolerate it I'd say get used to it.You're either going to do something to deter them from flying over your land or make it very difficult to gain access to your land to remove their balloon which give the police plenty of time to get there or get some friends to confiscate the ballon until the police arrive

Im told i can claim the balloon if it lands, but these guys are so quick when they land they have a landrover and trailer on the field and have it loaded and gone in minutes.

And a few well placed spikes in the gateways should help slow them up
