A Stab in the dark...

Recommended Posts

New rifle, CCTV!? and a bit of improvisation.

Not expecting much to be about after keeping a fairly lax eye out this afternoon for any signs of life, I decide to turn in (2:20am ish) as ever I decided to have a quick flick around on the CCTV. After seeing everything had been locked, I flicked to the cameras watching over the animals fields.... little to my surprise there sat the culprit for the holes that had begun to appear, fully illuminated by the IR.

Not wanting to give the game away, a quick change and check he hadn't moved and off out the door I set, Taking with me the AAS410k .177 I'd picked up Friday (had been through a round of HTF earlier Sunday) and an Improvisation in the form of a maglite (4D Cell - Bulb version).

Initially timid of the focused full white beam the rabbit decided to run into the next unoccupied animal field (even better  ) after moving and increasing the width of the beam, I positioned against a post and rail fence supporting the gun tight against the rail with the maglite rested alongside.

Carefully moving the maglite until the rabbit was just visible (eye reflection) on the very edge of the beam I proceeded to align the scope to the beam, after which in synchronisation moving a fraction to ensure a better view.

A thwak at around 43 yards and an impressive back flip later.... the hole digging culprit is no more

Took me a short while to find the pellet/impact hole.. certainly not as visible under all that fur as say the .22 :icon_redface: but bang on target  ...
