Rabbithunter 456
obviously there is a couple of factors that determine a dog's fitness how its bred exercise it gets but what would you say is the most important factor in a dog's fitness, or do they play an equal part? As skye is just not even a year old i havent done very much work, 3 or 4 runs a night, and not very often. I was planning to spend summer just getting her fit & ready for next season and hopefully make a cracking rabbiting dog for me - just a shame we cant course hare's now, i would like to have seen her run one or two perhaps a trip over to ireland Quote Link to post
tote 870
A dogs breeding and it's fitness are two totally different things. You can have the best bred dog in the world, but if it's over weight and never excersised it will not be fit. Then again a run of the mill dog that's excersized and worked regularily will be fit. So I say a dogs fitness is 100% down to excersise. Breeding has a part to play in the ability of the dog as a finished article, but has nothing to do with fitness. Quote Link to post

mole catcher 1
I personally cant see the point of keeping a dog in a ready state of fitness out of season. Keep it fit of course and well exersiced but not match fit so to speak. I have found it does dogs no harm to lay off over summer, giving yourself a steady 8weeks to ready your dog for the season.
