Collie Lurcher Traits

Recommended Posts

i have a collie x greyhound..dont work her shes just a pet shes great around the house just lays in the bed and loves to lay at your feet...she is very very nervy though hates even walking through doors in case you shut it on her, this can b problem when the little kiddy gets bit rough with her. She has growled few times but think most dogs would if toddler jumps on them..when shes out she totally different she beats the arse of my hound cross even though hes way heavier than her, and she really shows him whose the boss. Runs rings around all the dogs in neighbourhood my parents have four english pointers and she runs round with 4 pointers and hound running in line after her..as i say i can only give my veiw as a pet cos never worked her she likes to chase cats but does tend to stalk alot and herd so dont know what kind of worker she would have made having said that shes very intelligent and only have to show her anything couple of times for her to pick it up which is handy :).

Well i already have a girl here with a touch of collie in her, she is perfect and does all i ask of her, the problem is she has smashed 3 toes on the same foot and the injurys are re occuring so i fancy something trainable and solid, i am a bit scared to go for a half cross because of all i here about the lack of speed and the sensetive nature of them, but also think a 1/4 would be a little risky as i only run rabbits on quite rough ground. I have found a litter that is lurcher 2 lurcher where the pups come out 3/8 5/8.

Pups from that beeding could turn out different, some leaning towards the greyhound, some leaning towards the collie and something close to the ideal mix, its just luck of the draw at the end of the day, personaly If I was to get another collie x I would stick to 1/4 collie

I've only ever had Collie x's and never had one that was skittish or nervous. They do tend to be a bit Hyper in their first couple of seasons and need constant work to keep them stimulated. Good socialisation and patience is needed when training. Any dog bullied or maltreated will be nervous around people, puppies thrive on confidence and as long as you bring them on properly they should turn out level headed and sound.
