Like I said earlier I've got to stop my 4 and 5 yr old going out the garden all summer then have I?

Why do you need to stop your kids going into the garden all summer?

The only way a bumble will sting is if you provoke it. I've had them crawling all over my hands and never been stung.

What if one of them are allergic to Bee stings?Should I let one get stung first to find out? :icon_eek:

Using that principle, you should keep your kids in a plastic bubble mate. There are lots of things they may be allergic to.

My kids know more about wildlife than most adults I know mate.

Well given that you can't tell the difference between a honey bee and a bumble bee I doubt that.

For goodness sake stop being silly and leave those harmless bees alone!

I'm not an apiaologist mate.........I don't tend to go closely examining things too closely for the simple fact that they should be left alone, can't even use my back gate now as what was just one or two as turned into 20-30 now.I'm not in the habit of taking kids into potentally dangerous situations just to show them the difference between wasps, honey bees and bumble bee's. :whistling:

So I've got to tell my 4 and 5 year old they can't go out the garden all summer.........kids panic when they see bee's,I'm ok with them they don't bother me but it's the kids that are my concern.

If it is bees (and not wasps) leave them alone.   You should be teaching your kids about wildlife, and having bees is a great way of doing that. They won't sting unless they are harmed.   Letting

If your that bothered about the HARMLESS bumble bee you need to grow a pair and move them yourself.

Some knobhead decided to dump some rubbish at an empty house that I own and the council told me if I didn't clear it away then they would have to and charge me for it.In the middle of this pile of crap was a bumble bee nest.Did that bother me?, No.Bumble bees rarely sting and I never got stung once. You're making this worse than it is, if it was honey bees however I would be able to understand your concerns.

the kids will be fine, if you're still bothered man up

You really do need to 'man up' as has been advised.

You are making a song and dance about your kids; but be realistic; if you are that paranoid then for gods sake don't take them anywhere near any flowering plants at this time of year.

Genuine allergy to stings is quite rare, and full on anaphelectic shock is very rare.

How did you find out your kids weren't allergic to nuts? Did you take them to the doctor and demand that they were tested for all known allergens before feeding them anything?

FFS grow up and leave the bees alone and stop using your kids as an excuse.

Bumble bees WILL NOT attack unless you do something to their nest. Even then, they rarely sting.

Where did I suggest that I 'owned' all bumble bees?

He came on, asked for advice, and was given some.

Then he starts banging on about his kiddiewinkies as if they are under threat of death FFS...

I'll repeat; Bumble bees are harmless, and anyone who is lucky enough to have them in their garden should be pleased and proud.

We can't all go around killing everything just because we have an irrational fear. Live and let live.

Bumble bees are in serious decline; and without these fantastic polinators we would all be fecked.

If he kills them he should be ashamed.

Well sorry but i'm not going to discuss bee's all night so you dad on mate. Point i was making was its JBs garden and if he doesn't want them so be it.........just because you are a lover of bees doesnt mean everyone else has too.

Can you guarentee that his children wont be stung by maybe falling on a bee?....no you cant and in the unlikely case of being allergic to bees there could be, yes could be a potential disaster.....

What a complete dick.

There is more chance of a wasp flying in through an open window and stinging your kids. Are you going to keep them indoors with the windows shut just in case?

You were given a good piece of advice about not using expanding foam. You ignored that advice.

You were given a good piece of advice about not disturbing the nest. You ignored that advice.

You've now blocked the entrance to the nest using foam, when there are likely to be bees still out foraging. They will come home, find out that someone has mucked about with their nest, and be annoyed.

Why do people ask for advice just to ignore it?
