Have a pattxbull which i dug to maybe 12.15 times last season. He is a hard bugger and i have now noticed a hard lump on his underjaw about the size of a marble. He had been opened up on the lower jaw a few times while working and now this has appeared.Should i lance it or just leave it be as it does not seem to be affecting him in anyway.

fat man i would puncture it with a clean syringe needle give it a squeeze it sounds like maybe a abcess at base of one of his teeth if thats the case get all squeezed out of it and a jag of penicilian and keep an eye on it plus if his breath smells worse than usual its an abcess

i had something simular with one of spaniels only under his eye big lump felt hard so pricked it and it did nt need much squeezing the stuff ozzed out of it and the smell was vile so i flushed it out with salt and water using a syringe then jabbed him with penicilian he was fine after few days it was one off his back teeth was problem but it looked ok if the tooth is damaged or broke then the problem might come back so id say only answer then is for tooth too come out .

true enough hack but they usually are noticed once the dog has healed up and its then you spot them but if the dogs healed up and ok then it appears its usually an abcess due too teeth or a foriegn body getting in ie thorn etc.
