Tyson was unbeatable in his day, For a haevyweight of 5 foot 11" tall to rule the division the way he did was simply unbelievable.

I had the priveledge to see him batter Julius Francis in Manchester and his power had to be seen to be believed.

In the end he was beaten by his lifestyle, and not any individual boxer.

Once Don King got his hands on Tyson that was the start of the end for him.It might have been a different story had he stopped with Kevin Rooney. He was started off in the boxing game with Cus,and had 15 fights before Cus died(Kevin Rooney was also with him for a few of these fights),Rooney then took over and he was awesome, once Don King got Tyson to chase Rooney away and get a different trainer that was when he started to decline. It was the same for Naz when he thought he didnt need Brendan Ingle anymore. No matter how good a fighter, they all still need a good corner to go back to when there game plan isnt going to well.Tyson wasnt a cur imo,he had 6 losses and all were either ko or tko losses with 1 disqualification. It is a well known fact in his later years he wasnt fighting for any other reason than to pay the taxman, thats why he never bothered to train. The night he kod Spinks, the sort of shape and condition he was in he would have kod any of the so called greats.Like has already been pointed out he beat himself.

well put oneredtrim, the thing with tyson was he never had a fighters heart and HE knew it,i think he tried to change this in the way he took his lumps from lewis but as sharpe as he was the night he fought spinks he was never in the class of some of the greats.

He was off the rails in Tokyo. He was drinking and partying, wasnt training seriously and also got kod off a sparring partner a week before the fight, and lets not forget he kod Douglas but got the benefit of a dodgy long count. As soon as Tyson went down the ref counted straight away and the rest is history.

Well Mick...i suppose it would be easy to waste a few hours on here chatting around the heavyweight scene but if you read whats been said by the folk around Tyson in that early stage of his career then you will understand how the machinations of these matters work to allow somebody who could not box grab the limelight in such a manner. The threat of being rumbled was felt strongest by Jacobs, even after Atlas had screamed he was a f****n nonce/bully shitehouse c**t, there was so much money invested in the pantomine that Atlas had to go and Tyson would become heavy weight champion by hook or by crook. The pressure of holding it all together ultimately killed Jacobs.

I agree with what your saying he had very good marketing and he came along when the heavyweight seen was flat like it is now.

speaking of the truth coming out in boxing and fighters quitting did anyone ever see the fights between JC CHAVEZ and FRANKIE RANDALL.

I can vaguely remember them.Didnt Randall beat him then in the rematch they gave a stoppage win to Chavez.
