Ideation 8,217
Hello Guys! I have fannied about for the last year or so looking at various PCP and top end springer air rifles, with the view to buying one, but have never brought myself to take the plunge. However, today something came up that has led to some new rabbit work, and potentially a lot more after that. The thing is it's pretty much ideally suited to lamping with an air rifle, and a bit of evening shooting. No chance of dealing with the volume of rabbits with the shotgun, fairly terrible place to ferret, trappings a no go, and a rifle is also pretty much a no go. As a result i have decided to take that plunge and will be buying (probably new) a rifle, and pretty much a whole lamping setup (can't be fecked using the hand lamp). So i was hoping on a bit of advice, at the moment i have been looking at either a BSA Ultra, or one of the Air Arms rifles. It needs to be accurate out to a decent range, quiet, and be solidly built. I'm thinking multi-shot, and weight isn't too much of a problem as i'm 6 ft odd and fairly strong. Oh and the rifle will be used almost exclusively for rabbits, not that i guess that makes much difference. Any input from anyone on what rifle, scope, lamp etc, would be much appreciated as i will be needing to purchase and be using it within the next week or two at the most. Also i am not made of money, so cost is an issue, although i can happily spend a few hundred, but not 700/800 really. Cheers, Jai. Quote Link to post
Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi Jai. The Ultra would be a great choice mate, cracking rifle and very accurate. Best to go along and shoulder one, see how you feel with it. At 6ft odd you may bennifit from adding a butt spacer or two, best sorted in the shop. Always the choice of having it regd too, increase the shot count and consistancy. Mines a .22 regd and set at 11.30 which is perfect for me, she lives on a diet of AA Fields 16grn 5.52s. From a 230 Bar charge I get about 70 shots before she starts to drop off the reg. Be sure to put a Twink moderator on her too. Great rifle ATB. Bill. 1 Quote Link to post

Buster321c 1,010
AA all the way Its the best value for money rifle on the market , bar none , and it will do everything you ask of it and more . 177 is going to be best for night time shootinbg as there will be less margin for error when judging distance . At standard you`ll be looking at + shots , and regged you`ll have in access of 120 . A multi shot ( AAS410 ) second hand will set you back about £350-£400 , and the servicing of such a rifle is simple . There not the most popular rifle for nothing Bust Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
I do like the look of the AAs410, the only down side is i need the gun fairly quickly, and can't really sit about hoping for a good deal, and new they are fairly pricey. Quote Link to post

SEAN3513 7
as been said mate...... air arms, bsa ultra or scorpion t10 this seems ok as for lamps....obviously scope mounted is the best option if your going alone i have a night searcher scope lamp....it use it my air rifle and rim fires , not silly money (£120 ish) including battery etc. if your shooting from a vehicle the ultra is a good option because of its size cheers sean Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I would suggest a Daystate X2, no fancy electrickery and so quiet, shhhh, so very very quiet (I am going all Bjork)! Can be had for reasonable money, some at around the £350 mark, very good weapon! Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
Cheers for that Sean, i'm very new to the PCP thing, always having used spring rifles, either webley of weirach. The lamp will have to be scope mounted as i will mostly be a lone. One thing that worried me with the ultra was its small size, i will have to visit a gun shop to try one. Is there really much difference between the Ultra and the s200/400 other than personal preference? I mean on performance in the hunting field? Cheers, Jai. Quote Link to post
SEAN3513 7
shot counts not great with the ultra (especially in .177)..........but yes, very similar realy. after market regulators etc....take them to another level, they make decent guns into awesome guns personally i would buy a seccond hand regged gun over a standard new one......you get better performance and better shot count Quote Link to post
