It takes the piss mate. Problem is when you get to court they will just say that's your problem not theirs.

About 3 years ago I got a phone call from the police asking me to come in to answer a few questions. I thought it was strange as they wouldn't tell me what it was about. I kept saying I can come in whenever. Eventually they gave me a date and time to come in and attended the police station 6 weeks after the first phone call from them only to get arrested for GBH and then driven to another police station 40 miles away for questioning. They questioned me and I pointed out I could prove I was at work when the incident happened as all my phone conversations at work were recorded. They charged me anyway and refused to bail me from the police station. I got bailed the next morning from court and had to attend court twice more before they actually dropped the case. Not once did they contact my employer to check my alibi.
