Is it paranoid to think that once they have your fingerprint it could be stored...or potentially stored somewhere the police could request to see? But I like the idea of not having to type a pin number to unlock the screen every time. I don't mean to show off, I need it for a new job and the truth is I f*****g hate phones. This is correct, as with most finger print recognition stuff the finger print stays on the phone/device and what will be transmitted is a hashed (like encrypted) code which is either associated with your finger print (on the phone) or a hashed code generated from coordinates from key areas of your finger print. Either way it cannot be turned back into a finger print when it gets to where it is being sent. really , it just seems the police can request anything these days, Google gets hundreds of thousands of requests a year and sites like facebook probably have a contract with them by now. A phone already means you can be tracked by GPS etc anyway (so if you commit a crime with your phone in your pocket you are a bit of a nob), so I am only concerned if the details are stored outside of the phone. The police can request info from your service provider but what they receive as a result of you scanning your finger wont be of any use to them. That said as the hash is generated by computer (or mobile it could hypothetically be reversed (depending on loads of stuff) however in real life could not realistically happen or at least not in the near future.
