bitch in heat

Recommended Posts

I got a 3/4 bull grey bitch off this lad bout 4mnths ago she was badly under weight when i got her, we have now got her into alot better condition and she has come into heat but she has bled more than any other bitch ive had. dont think she had come into heat before due to her lack of condition cause she really was skinny. has anyone else had any experience of this there is no smell or dodgy looking discharge just alot of what you would expect.

cheers folks.

My bitch bleeds heavy as well so did my gsd bitch as long as shes ok and theres no smell and shes not ill or off colour i wouldnt worry to much just keep an eye on her.I give my bitch plenty of lambs liver and stuff for a little extra iron to help her out at that time.

Had the same thing happen with my bitch mate...bled for 30 days with hardly any swelling...phoned the vets and he advised a course of anit-biotics...said the root cause could be ovarian cysts....i have since had her spayed and sheas like a different dog...hope this helps...atb stabba

she is swollen but is in fine fettle so i will keep an eye on her for a bit, no intention to breed her for a good few years as she isnt 2yrs old yet and has alot to prove before i think about breeding.

thanks for the help.

My bitch has just come in to season.

she is bleeding a lot and no smell or discharge and she is very swollen.

If you think its a lot more than a drip of blood here and there and shes not swollen then i get her to a vet just for checkup

Some more heavily built bitches seem to bleed a lot more than racy, lightly built dogs. Bleeding for weeks on end isn't natural and should be checked out by a vet, likewise bitches which come into season every 3 or 4 months. Often a case of ovarian cysts as well.
