HW100 Floating Barrel

Recommended Posts

I decided to float the barrel on my hw100kt for a few reasons really:

to stop re-zeroing issues

asthetic looks

to see if accuracy imporved as some places i have read have had good results

so i ordered a floating barrel band from rowan engineering which just clamps the cyclinder in place. it is made of aluminium as is good quality - not as good as weihrauchs own but hey GERMANS!

fitting is really easy as you would know if you own one. heres a piccy

in terms of accuracy i would say it improved my groupings by about 2mm at 17m (my garden range) so i will see at further ranges later.

Hi Scott.

Just a thought for you mate.

The HW Barrels are only held in oplace with ONE grub screw.

There is no support at all now for your barrel, be carfull mate.

Looks nice, but may cause you problems.

Dont worry pal getting two grub screws put in the top but plenty of people have no problems even with one grub screw.

thanks. noticed you a hw100 that has been looked at by a&m - i am sending mine to him soon to get the screws in the top of action, what tuning have you had done to yours and does it feel better??

thanks

how strange that something as simple as removing that one piece of metal can improve accuracy. anyone care to explain how?

its not always entirely true but anything in contact with the barrel with shift it slighty. ie. a barrel band is connected to the stock and cyclinder aswell as the barrel. so the stock is wood which moves and twist aswell as the cylinder that can expand/contract slighty with pressure/temperature all these things can knock the barrel out of sync with zero.

thats why theoben have been doing it for years!

Your the first person mate that ive heard not happy with the hw100s accuracy out the box.

You tried different pellets mate?

Lol absolutely no problem with accuracy mate, just prefer a floating barrel and having peace of mind about zero keeping.

I love my hw and wouldnt swap it for anything - just some minor tweaks to make it personal.

Hi Scott.

After having issues with the consistancy and accuracy of MY.... HW100 I decided a tune and fettle was in order to get the best from the rifle.

I asked Adi to set the reg and balance the hammer spring, clean and polish the internals, add another barrel retaining screw, have the crown lapped on the lathe.

Other internal works aswell.

The end result is now a very smooth, consistant, and accurate rifle.

Most PCPs are brilliant out of the box......others need a bit of tweaking and further setting up.
