irish hare under threat

was listening to the radio today and the topic came up about the irish hare under threat from the european brown hare in mid ulster,they have done a study on them and have said they are interbreding with the irish hare and they reckon ther are up to 7000 euro hares in mid ulster,saying that i have seen a lot of euro hares this past few years but didnt think they would interbred cause they are two diffrent sub-species what yous think.........

They've been here 150 years and there's no record of hybridization up to now. I can't imagine they've suddenly changed. We hunted out that way many years ago and caught both types on the same day but never a halfer. Sounds like some breathless young environmentalist fishing for a research grant to me.
