baldockbanks courser 598
now the serious business of the show season is upon us iv started getting my lurchers fit. 1. Is 3 miles a day going to get a dog looking in tip top nick for the ring or shall I up it to 5 ? 2. can anyonne recomended a good dog shampoo to give there coat that special winning shine ? 3. what is the best way to train my dogs to chase a bed sheet in the racing ? 4. Is there any litters of pups around at present for next summer. It doesent matter what they run like but they need to high step like a hackney poney hold there head high and enjoy there teth being checked. ? I take showing vey seriouslie so have only just pulled my dogs out the pen there a bit fat but I couldnt risk running them in winter incase they picked up any unsightlie scars. Any help would be super Thankyou. Edited March 13, 2011 by baldockbanks courser Quote Link to post

snoopdog 1,256
theres good dog men out there who work there dogs hard through the winter and do the shows through the summer ...keeping a dog in top condition all year round is an art all by itself ...to many folk leave there dogs in the kennel after they have done there winters work .. showing isnt all about ribbons and rosettts ....it makes a chap proud to have a dog in good condition.... 3 Quote Link to post
fallow buck 18
good one!! at least those guys are honest about it,, its the one's who CLAIM to work their dogs and are more bothered about showing and racing then anything else,, or what is even worse people who keep a number of working strain dogs in their kennel do feck all about keeping them fit normally but then go on a lamp session with a friend to show off then wonder why the dog is stiff or muscle pulled the next day :wallbash: BUT will tell you and strangers on these forums how to work yours edited for spelling mistakes lol Edited March 13, 2011 by fallow buck 1 Quote Link to post

Its not good to keep a dog fit all year round thats a fact. I boxed and had 70 bouts my brothers have boxed and won multipul national titles (thats right I wernt as good) so I know a bit about conditioning, its all about PEAKS AND TROUGHS you rest is as inportant as work. if you maintain a level off fitness your dog will run flat an animal should be rested till mid - end july then gradually built up and up till at a peak. rabbits and hares arent fit in the summer there resting and your dogs fitness should match that of your quarie building to winter! If you didnt guess I cant stand showing and racing between cross breeds with out a breed standard its just who gets on with the judge the best. id be embarresed to go in a show ring. I might let my 3 year old girl walk one of her dads lurchers round but I cringe at the full grown men and women prancing round and seriouslie wounder if them dogs and people are out when it rainy and windy and muddy in the winter ! ! ! 2 Quote Link to post
