deben mk 3

Recommended Posts

i've just bought the deben mk 3 with the pin point dial on it, but i've had a couple of practice goes with it and just cant seem to get a good mark, the noise is confusing also, as i'm not used to hearing anything unless i'm getting close to finding a terrier (mk 1).

i've heard that the box has to be laid flat in search mode, is this right ?, and in the position the same as you would use a mk 1 box in locate ?

so anyone with any tips etc, it would be appreciated. ;)

my advice would be..take the f****r back...lol.. i tried it once and was most annoyed......did my head in.......:D

i could'nt get any replacement caps for the mk 1 and to be honest i dont do enough digging to justify buying a b & f, and i needed one urgent and was told there is now a wating list for the b & f so buy the time it arrived the season would be over, thats why i had to buy the mk 3 :(

I have a mk2 and i dont even bother to take it out its just laying there gathering dust. A mate has a mk3 but not with the pinpoint and they are the same as a mk2 dead on for finding the dog but for depth i put them about a foot out. We where out on sunday and i got a up close look at the b&f for the first time collar is abit bulky looking but the lad that ownes it says no bother with it so am gonny get myself one, ye can buy a box on ebay for roughly £150 and if ye know someone with a b&f ye can get them to order ye a collar, apparently ye need a ref number to purchase a collar and ye only get one of them if ye buy a box of bellman and flint. I think the point of the pinpoint feature on the mk3 is when ye have found the dog that ye turn it down slowly and it gives ye a more accurate reading of depth, in saying that i haven't used it so am only going by debens sales pitch. Mess around with it in the house, only way to learn something is to do it.

Hi Lucky

You don't hold it horizontal or vertical. You just point it (the pointed end that is) towards the target. So if you're right above you would actually hold it upright pointing straight down but if you're further away it would be at an angle. Imagine you're shining a torch at the collar.

The pinpointer knob works like the old MK1 wheel, turn it down as you approach the collar and wait until you hear the noise. You can turn it right down and you won't hear anything.

I have the ferret version and I must admit it's been spot on every time, I much prefer it to the old grey box
