tubba 38 Posted March 1, 2011 Report Share Posted March 1, 2011 Hello all, I have recieved a letter back today from my local MP regarding the Hunting Act. I filled in the email that was going around via this forum and recieved a speedy reply, but i was left confused by one of the exemptions within the law. My Mp has wrote in one paragraph. The acts faliure as a piece of legislation that continues to place a significant and unnecessary strain on rural communities, the, police, and the courts. The Acts's series of exemptions designed to allow some types of hunting to continue were a result of political wrangling and are both illogical and unclear. For instance, it is illegal to hunt rabbit but not a hare and it is legal to use a terrier underground to control foxes if they are killing gamebirds but illegal to use the same dog to kill the same fox if it is killing lambs. This left me a bit baffled, Has anyone else recieved a reply with the same wording. Only im wondering if this is a standard letter to which everyone will get the same reply. Boysie 12 Posted March 2, 2011 Report Share Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) I think it has to do with Tony Blair being forced to enforce the hunting act, but as he is pro-hunt he included a few exemptions to allow hunting to continue, so.. if you hunt protected species / national treasures you will be punished, but if you give enough reason for it (ie, protection of livestock, etc) then you will get away with it. Basically, hunting for fun is out, hunting for necessity is in. Which is the way it should be It also means coppers will look at you hunting with a guilty until proven otherwise attitude. The law is a joke and Tony Blair admits it was his biggest mistake.
