Dai Williams 0 Posted February 28, 2011 Report Share Posted February 28, 2011 Right here goes this is my hw77 bought recently off a tinternet site, Few pics below to show the paint falling off her, I recently posted a topic about dipping rifles but turned out to be far to expensive, So im thinking of stripping the action to bare metal and re blueing or powder coating, Has anyone on here striped and re blued a rifle, what was the end result like and how difficult was it to do? matt_hooks 188 Posted March 1, 2011 Report Share Posted March 1, 2011 Don't believe all the doom and gloom merchants. Chemical bluing is very much a case of proper preparation prevents piss poor paintwork (ok, I know, but bluing doesn't rhyme ok!) Work up through sandpaper grits, until you have a good finish with 3200 grit wet and dry wetted. This should give you a mirror finish. Make sure you thoroughly degrease before applying the chemicals, and apply them according to the instructions. It's not difficult, it just takes some attention to detail to get it right! Dai Williams 0 Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Share Posted March 3, 2011 Ok i rang my local gunshop yesterday and they said they can send it off for a proper bluing and throw in a service for £120, I think im gonna go for this as i need a service and need to test the power, as it second hand an not sure if the previous owner has tampered with it. Plus it will come back like a brand new rifle and will look nice with its bigger brother my HW97kt in my gun Cabinet im gonna build. Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188 Posted March 4, 2011 Report Share Posted March 4, 2011 Sounds like a bargain to me, you'll end up with a beautiful rifle, something to be proud of! Might be worth contacting venom (there's a link on Zini's posts) or one of the other specialist tuners. They might be able to blue/service and tune, adding a huge amount to the value (and shootability) of the rifle. Depends how deep your pockets are. I know venom are very reasonable pricewise though! Dai Williams 0 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Report Share Posted March 5, 2011 Ok took rifle into gunsmiths this morning, The guy took a look and said id done a cracking job on the prep work and said to send away you'd be wasting your money, so he gave me a bottle of gun blue and i had a go, starting new topic with pics on how this went, thanks for all the interest and replies tho lads.
