It can take a few days to break up the compaction, so keep up the oil/massage. Hope she recovers

bert the fert 28
cheers bert , shes quite happy but i was quite surprised by the size of it and it needs to be removed Now i don't know if this is true but someone once told me that feeding live maggots will help break up a compacted crop. Maybe one of the poultry men on here can tell me whether or not that's bollox. I sorta think it sounds sensible, but freely admit i'm no expert
darbo 4,779
ive had this before like bert says give the bird a few drops of cod liver oil.then hold the bird so its head and neck are angled towards the ground [not upside down].then gently massage the crop. working up to the beak.dont apply too much pressure. the contents of the crop should hopefully soften and the bird should reguritate the blockage. there may be a need to repeat the process over a couple of days. i had to last year with one of my birds before everything was back to normal. good luck. darbo 4,779
just been on the phone to a good man in poultry and for compacted crop he suggests-run some warm water down the birds throat. let it breathe massage the crop, then angle the bird to the ground and continue to massage until the bird vomits. i must admit i havent tried this myself but he said it has worked for him with a bird with compacted crop. DUCKWING 302
OIL WORKS , AS SUGGESTED , MASSAGE THE CROP PERSONALLY I WOULD GIVE 1/2 A CC OF ANTIBIOTIC INTO THE BREAST AS WELL AS ITS USUALLY AN INFECTION THAT CAUSES THE BLOCKAGE IN THE FIRST PLACE DUCKWING
