Blue one 89
You get the odd one that will take all and are good. If raised from a pup, they would make good workers, but injury prone. Small greyhounds would be better. Quote Link to post

poacher3161 1,766
I THIMK MOST OLD SKOOL GUYS HAVE WORKED THEM AT SOME STAGE. Very true and realised that they are not in the same league as a well bred lurcher. Quote Link to post
munster man 120
my first dog was a purebreed, got her because she was nervous on the track but gave her time and i had her hunting with me,she was bad to recall but had great heart on all game,i think her legs might b a little brittle compared to a lurcher but she certainly wasnt afraid of any game that popped out.Fly was her name sadly passed away now but still have the good memories.she wasnt as smart as your collie lurcher but her heart made her a great dog Quote Link to post

fox digger 1,086
just to add my 2 cents, ive had 4 full hounds in the last few monts to try get sumtin decent to breed a lurcher from, all got from local trainers, and all bitches, 1st........... track bitch, 2 years old, not upto scratch on track, shy, nervous. zero prey drive, no recall, dead loss, ran away one got a snap from charlie, even with other dogs. 2nd........... track bitch, 4 year old, won a couple of races, not hectic ped so not worth breeding pure breds from, gamey..ish.. bad recall, contrary with other dogs, fine on bunnies not for charlie. 3rd.......... track bitch, 4 year old same as above, best one i had got or so first impressions told me, great recall, great with other dogs, wanted to run on everything, first night on lamp first rabbit turned and down like a sack of shite, broke her ankle. starting to loose faith at this stage.. 4th......... 3 year old coursing bitch, kept getting to semi final at coursing but not any further, gamey out. jump wire, hit ditches, (not to hard thank god) straight back with bunny in toe, dinger on the lamp, and mad for charlie. at last sumtin worth breeding from. moral of story... greyhounds are like people, you will always get oddballs and ones that stand out in the crowd!!! A.T.B. Quote Link to post

A.T.B. Well said, that about sums up the ex track/coursing greyhound. I had a x track bitch back in 1991, she was great on hares, never tryd her on foxes, but she broke her neck, coursing a hare as she went down for the strike, took a tumble! Below is another coursing greyhound, the fawn bitch and a ex track greyhound, the white and fawn bitch. The ex track bitch, has come on great, with a lot of work, but the coursing bitch, was no good..! Quote Link to post
