running weight, just weighed my 15 month old pup

Recommended Posts

when i fisrst got him he was 48 lb but looked a little thin, ive just weighed him and he is 72 lb, he is 26 " tts, so he has put on 24 lb in 3 weeks, he is walked 3 times every day 30 mins 6 am, 30 min 12 dinnertime then up to an hour on a night, he looks alot healthier than when i first got him and is acting more puppyish ie jumping round like an ideot when he first ees you on a morning or when you pick his lead up, just wondering does he seem too heavy for his type or X, like i have said he seems very fit and healthy in my eyes just wanting other peoples opinions

24lb is allot of weight to put on in 3 weeks thats 50% of what he weighed when you got him, having dogs to heavy will bring more problems to joints in wrists and toes esp when they are trying to stop and turn, put a pic up of when you got him and now.

getting a dogs weight comes in time some dogs work better below weight ,but no dogs are the same , just keep working him,

I would say that he'll be nearer his right weight now than he was before as 48lb seems light for a 26" dog bred that way.

You confuse me a bit though, in your first post you say "he seems very fit" but on a later post you say he "seems to pull up quicker but he is f****d easier than before." :hmm:

24lb is a lot of weight to put on in 3 weeks, now that you've got him weighing more it's time to work on his fitness, I'd guess that as you work him more he'll probably lose a few pounds and then you'll find out what his running weight is. All dogs are different some run better with a bit of weight on them while others can look lean but perform better that way, you're in the best position to judge your dog.

ALRIGHT MATE FAIR ANSWER.IF HES BLOWING MUCH QUICKER ID NOT GIVE HIM AS MUCH FOOD.

CUT HIM BACK A BIT TRY AND DROP A FEW ILBS AND REACESS IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS.

YOUR DOGS NEW TO YOU. FINE TUNEING WILL COME IN TIME .

EXERCISE/GOOD FOOD/REST/AND TIME .SOUNDS AS IF THE DOG IS BETTER OFF WITH YOU.ATL

I'm no expert but from my own observations of my own dogs. Since the advice on here I've swopped my dogs from complete food to mainly barf, with small amount of biscuits and veg. In about 6 weeks that I've been doing it they've all lost abit of weight - with the biggest loss being in the deerhound/bull/grey cross I've got - she's dropped 5 lb from 55lb to 50lb but she's ripped up and looks and works much better for it, as the advice off the other lads you'll know what looks and works best on your dogs.

I can't believe the dog in the second pic is 24lb heavier than the dog in the first pic ! Did you use the same scales to wheigh him both times ? To put 24lb on a dog in three weeks, (8lb a week !!, seems incredible, what are you feeding it ? All that extra wheight will be fat not muscle, so you will have to turn some of the wheight from fat to muscle before you see any appreciable gain in performance. Good luck with him

Cheers.
