Casso 1,264
hi all trying to train a bitch to come back when told and or whistled, but the problem is she just runs around you in circles etc and knows you cant get her when off the lead, i am taking her on a enclosed astro turf football pitch so cant loose her she doesnt run off,and stays close just does the above! any advice people would be grateful many thanks dogs are by nature curious creatures, when you take them out they want to investigate everythings, smells etc,,let her sniff round and satisfy herself doing that for a while,,if everytime she comes when called , you pop her back on the lead shes not going to be too keen to come near you,, you need to make yourself real interesting to her to overcome her wanderlust,,,i would use a tennis ball or something similar,,call her and when she looks round , bounce it, you'll soon catch her interest, and if everytime you call her and she comes and gets to chase the ball, she will begin to show a hell of a lot of interest in you in future,,if you can get her to the stage where she has to touch her nose to the palm of your hand for you to throw the ball,,problem solved,,the prob with her keeping the ball and not coming back is solved with a second ball,,keep her coming back for more,,best of luck with her bud,,
austringer 0
just use a treat mate, give the dog the recall command and when she comes near show her the treat then why she is focused on it touch or stroke her and give her the treat then let her go off again.do this for awhile and she will soon associate the command with a tasty reward.once she is comming well for treat call her and miss the treat out every other time and instead give her a little stroke and praise.you can soon forget the treat altogether but she will still come just in case and she is still being rewarded by praise. hope it goes well mate

darbo 4,779
get a check cord you can get them from gundog equipment suppliers or even a washing line. take the dog to a place free from distractions ie other dogs/people. let her wander to the length of the cord .then call her name or whistle[your choice]run backwards and jerk the cord then release. may have to do this a few times at first before she comes to you. dont jerk the cord too hard. when she comes in give her praise and a titbit.repeat this a couple of times each day. then move to different areas parks fields etc. it may take a few weeks before she gets into the habit of coming in instantly. dont be tempted to let her off before she is ready. when you feel she is ready take her to a enclosed area and try her off the lead.then you can progress to different areas. always give plenty of praise when she comes to you. dont overdo the training or the dog will get bored. be patient.good luck.
