gavalar1081 0
Hi Everyone, Picked up a MK1 Deben ferret finder in great condition. Trouble is I have never used one before! Does anyone know how to use it? It seems to be working, it is making the noise at it gets closer but how exactly do I use the dial? Thanks, Gav Quote Link to post
comanche 3,197
Dead easy to use .Try this for practice. Make sure you have decent batteries. Place the collar on the ground with the transmitter/battery holder on the floor as if it was hanging under the ferret's neck . Stand 10(or more if you have the 15 ft model) feet away from the collar. Wind the dial on the box to maximum and work nearer the collar until the ticking noise starts. Stands still and then turn the sensitivity of the dial slowly down until the noise just(only just, mind!) stops . Move the box about until you pick-up the ticking again. Stop and turn the dial down again until the noise just stops . Move the box aboutuntil once again you pick-up the ticking. By repeating this you will end up right over the collar. How accurate the sticker on the dial with the depth gauge on is depends on how much the sticker girl at Debens was paying attention when she stuck it on but you will soon familiarise yourself with the device . Once mastered the next step is to get someone to hide the collar in a room and then you search for it blind . Good luck . They are nice simple devices to use once you,ve had a bit of practice Edited February 9, 2011 by comanche Quote Link to post
The one 8,552
Spot on good advise there ,when you get it on the lowest reading i make a x movement ant right in the middle should be the ferret ,but as your digging use the box in the hole to make sure the ferrets no moved to one side Quote Link to post

CWN-HELA 228
I've always been shown the way to use the mk1 mk 2 deben box scince I was a young lad. When you get the hang of it it's piss easy, the 2 boxes I have are spot on. Great bit of kit . Quote Link to post
