border lad 1,047
this was a common breed, in the 60s and 70s, the problem with most of them, dogs 26" to 29" bitches, 25" to 27" they could do there job, but the problem was they were slow to come to there maturity, and get there balance, 18 months to 2 years old, and some could not lift the hare, plenty pace and power, but could not lift the Hare, very good for the Roe, great temperament, good broken coats on them, and I never had any problems with feet or any thing else, just the length, of time you had to wait, for them to mature, after saying that, I had a couple of good ones, never used them on foxes, only edible, and they could do that, but truth is a good collie cross, will do all that at 14 15 months and much tidier, on the turns in tight areas, my opinion, move with the times, a good collie cross with a 1/4 saluki, blood will do all that you require and more, and again they will be working properly, 15 to 16 months old, taken all types of edible quarry, the grey/deerhound x is a bonny dog to look at, but why wait another 6 months for them to balance out and mature, the last one I had was in 1986, I showed him at COCKERMOUTH, WEST cumbria, a blue grey with a white flash down his chest, again stood about 28" a recieved 3rd prize, for him, well you didnt expect some one from the other side of the border to win did you, but he was the best looking dog down there that day, and shortly after that I sold him to a well known travelling man, they loved that cross, Quote Link to post
