Sweeney-Todd 208
Well fine shooting anyway, do you know that deep fried squirrel was a favourite dish of Elvis Presley? Hi Moley. Yes I did actualy. A friend of mine used to work at the HEARTBREAK HOTEL where Elvis was a frequent visitor. He used to prepare the squirrel with a secret blend of herbs, his technique was to place the herbs and squirrel in a plastic bag, and made sure it was ALL SHOOK UP. He would often take the bones home for OLD SHEP,...... he loved that dog. Unfortunately, the dog got a splinter lodged in its throat, and died. Poor Elvis was devestated, and beside himself, he was CRYING IN THE CHAPEL for weeks after, he was a sorry sight indeed. He would tremble with sorrow, there was certainly a WHOLE LOT OF SHAKIN GOING ON. Being a family dog, the grief hit the whole family, you would often hear him saying DONT CRY MOMMA. Then of course, it all got too much for Elvis, and he ended up IN THE GHETTO. Ohhhhhh yes Moley........he liked his Squirrel. ATB. Bill. 4 Quote Link to post

matt_hooks 188
Well I don't know about deep fried squirrel, but crispy fried squirrel is good stuff! Almost as good as crispy fried venison! Do people eat what they shoot on here? I know that Davy eats at least some of the bunnies he shoots, but what about other prey such as pigeon, squirrel, crows etc. ? Personally I eat most of what I shoot, with the exception of rats! Rabbit chilli is great, and any meat is good coated in cornflour and crispy fired, with a little sweet chilli sauce. Also rabbit curry and rabbit stews of all descriptions, and have even BBQ'ed the odd bunny or two in my time. Pigeons get breasted out and either sliced up and stir fried with some veg, or fried whole and eaten like mini steaks. I've got a venison stew on the hob right now, for tomorrow's dinner, made from the neck of a Roe I shot at work (not with the air rifle I hasten to add) and also the saddle from the same animal is slow roasting for tonight's dinner. You will never know just how happy I am to meet another gastro wizard of the field. Of course you and I both know, that these old secrets are seldom passed down through the ages, though I can not imagine why. Must compare notes and recipies in the future. Good eating my friend.
