buster 8789 64
ive only been into working dogs for three years. i brought my first dog two years ago i payed 120 for him. im more than than pleased with him but my expectations arnt as high as the thl hunters. ive not long got a pup i payed 75 for him hes 8-9 months. i cant be more happy with him but he hasent started yet. ive been offered free dogs but i would rather get a dog that has nouthing to do with mates. from what ive seen free dogs from mates is where problems start Quote Link to post
stevemac 448
Ive got to say most of my hunters have been free wether staghound, foxhound or rhodesian ridgeback I paid 100 dollars for a smooth fox terrier once and she turned out a cracker Ive paid for dogs also and they have been useless like stuntman Its the expence of getting them home that hurts the pocket a bit but if you didnt want them you wouldnt fork out the dough. Recon its not wether there free or not its weather they ar from good stock or not If they come free its just a bonus. Hello mate, ever had any really good dogs which have came from average to below average dogs?by accidental mates or whatever or from dogs which ye wouldn't of dreamed of producing real good grafters? I guess the first dog we got when we were married would qualify as a dog from ordinary parents that turned out a beauty he was a golden retreiver out of back yard pets not sure if it was that he was with us 24/7 or that he just had that something spiecal but he was a fanstic bushing dog ,duck retriever and blood trailer and watch dog. As well as fantastic with the kids never got the chance to see if would reproduce himself as the missess had him to the vets to have his nuts off as soon as our first ridgeback came into season. liam mc 18
It's funny, there has always been a certain hubris amongst dog men about having payed the least for a good dog. A good dog is worth paying for but obviously nice to get for free if your lucky, but people seem to hate saying - aye it cost me 300 quid - but it was f*****g belting! Maybe there are less expectations for a free/unknown dog so its judged slightly less criticly. Whereas with a dog from well known lines your cnstantly looking at it and comparing it. I think it goes way back mate when lads looked after each other passed dogs on to keep lines going or to help mate with worker never cash orientated among honest hunting lads , there was even an agreement way back to keep the staffie price within working mans pocket range, thats all lost now unfortunately Quote Link to post
