Not rietriving rabbits

Recommended Posts

Training went well bitch fetched tennis balls and rabbit skin dummies back and will even rump long net and fences with them.

when she catches shes very soft mouthed to the point of droping the odd one.

No problems up close but on long catches always carrys at first but wont come in and ends up crunching once she puts them down and they keep making half run offs till she re catches them.

was really optimistic after the trainning cant see what else I could have done.?

Apart from that shes doing well people cant beleive how well she works with ferrets unbelievable for a saluki lurcher had plenty of rs and h on lamp turns on a six pence run all night, just wont fetch back

Not Even two till may only first season working just hope she setteles in time.

any Ideas please?

praise no food.

she is very possive she isnt normally aggresive but if shes out ferreting shell sit buy the rabbit pile and if another dog approaches "her catch" shell have a go.

i think thats part of your prob bud, if she that possessive go back to the tennis ball and skin for a few weeks in spare time and dont take them off her when she retrieves

use 2 , let her drop one to chase the other, that way she wont associate you with giving up her prize,

if she learns to come back to you to get to chase again that way you become the focus of the retrieve not the quarry

mate, ive had them retrieve 5-6 seasons then (they) dont wont bring back, why most running dogs like to chase+kill and that is natural for them. Its not natural for them to bring back, people forget they aint gundogs labs...... which is more natural for them. You have done nothing wrong, because they know differnce from dummy to live stuff . And the dummy is just a (game) to them, live quarry 100% differnt ball game. This is one thing in trainng you can not make a dog do if it (dont) want to fact! It might bring back if it catchs alot and the novelty wheres off, but as i say it can go the other way and they can catch or kill where they catch  As i say ive had colliexs, bullxs all do great catch+retrieve loads of rabbits season after season. Then one night they think feck this after 15 odd runs, and start dropping short 3/4-1/2 way.

they do it(retrieve) because they want to
